136 years of Tyre technology finally increasing grip and comfort

Tyre Technology

Tyre technology has come on a long way since John Boyd Dunlop invented the first pneumatic tyre way back in 1888. In 1889 the first tractor appeared but the world had to wait until 1930 for Harvey Firestone to create and market the world’s first tractor tyre.

Tyre design and tyre technology advanced slowly in the decades that followed apart from the notable inventions of the Radial tyre designed by Michelin and the Bias Ply tyre designs favoured by the American market and American motor manufactures.

As with all things, advances in computing and computerised 3D modelling has in just a few short years allowed engineers to develop and push the boundaries of tyre technology. With these new tools, designers and engineers can alter the individual characteristics of the tyre shape and tread pattern to optimise the tyre for a specific farming purpose or purposes.

Rise of the Machines

In the not so distant past a farmer driving a tractor,  from farm to field to road and back again, hundreds of times a day would have found the experience to be uncomfortable, noisy, and at times potentially dangerous.

Fast forward to 2024 and the driver of this New Holland tractor which has our Ascenso TDR 700‘s attached which were fitted by the Bush tyres, Bushmobile team will be experiencing the exact opposite of their contemporaries of 30 years ago.

For starters, the ride would be smoother and more comfortable, and whilst they would appreciate the drop in road noise from the tyres when travelling on the roads, it is in the field that the operator would feel the greatest benefit of our modern agricultural tyres, enhanced traction!

These improved levels of grip can be in part be attributed to the overlapping tyre lug pattern which, have been engineered to work together as the wheel is turning to leverage forward momentum from the soil more efficiently. However, it does not end there as the tyre needs to ensure that as it turns it is self-cleaning so that every time it enters or meets the ground that a clean tread pattern is presented.

This is where the tyre technology from our Ascenso tyres comes into its own. Our tyre tread patterns especially when married with our VF technology offers incredible levels of grip with far less damage to the ground through soil compaction. Less soil compaction greater yield.

The design, technology and quality of engineering that goes into every one of our Ascenso agricultural tyres is the reason so many farmers, farm and estate managers are switching over to ourselves.
